I have 12", 18" & 24" digging buckets with teeth and then 30" and 48" ditching buckets. A very shallow 48" should be fine, maybe even a 54" if you're careful. Some guys are going to say anything more than 3' puts too much twist on the stick, but it really depends on how you run it. I have a 30 on a 8000 pound Deere 35D and would not want any wider for that weight of machine. I have a 48” on a Sk60 Kobelco (about 13,500# ) and that’s all it wants.
